Brody’s Standard: Doing Right by the Ones Who Give Us Everything

If you’re anything like me, you’ve spent a lot of time hugging your dog, looking them in the eyes, and telling them how much you love them. With that love comes a promise. A promise of safety, comfort, and as many vibrant, happy years together as we can possibly give them.

But as I started looking closer at what my dogs were ingesting, I noticed a disconnect. There is a gap between the love we have for our pets and the quality of the products available to us. Much of the pet world is built for the convenience of manufacturing, not necessarily for the individual biology of a living, breathing family member.

I learned this the hard way through my own journey with my dog, Brody. He was my world, but we lost him to cancer when he was only seven years old. You can read his full story here.

Once I lost Brody, I felt like I had broken that promise. I felt the weight of all the things I didn't know then—about the "toxic load" in our homes, the way high-heat processing can change the nature of nutrients in food, and the lack of clarity in the supplements I was trusting. I don't claim to be an expert or a veterinarian; I’m just a dog owner who wished I had more information when it mattered most.

I created Brody’s Standard as a way to remind us to never break that promise again. It is a commitment to do better for the dogs still by our sides and to be the resource I wish I had years ago.

The Brody Standard: Our Three Intentions

As a small company just starting out, these aren't just corporate goals—they are the personal benchmarks we use to make sure we are helping you the way we wanted to be helped.

1. Clarity Over Complexity

When I was looking for ways to help Brody, I found myself staring at labels that were confusing. "Proprietary blends" made it impossible to know if he was actually getting enough of the ingredients that mattered.

  • Our Intention: We believe in full transparency. We share the exact amounts of active ingredients we use. We aren't here to hide behind "secret formulas". We’re here to give you the data you need to make the best choices for your specific dog.

2. Respecting the Raw Materials

I’ve learned that how an ingredient is handled is just as important as the ingredient itself. Many processes involve high heat or synthetic additives that can add to a dog’s "toxic load."

  • Our Intention: We look for clean, bioavailable sources. We prioritize minimal processing and avoid unnecessary synthetic fillers or dyes. We want to keep things as close to nature as possible, respecting the internal environment of your dog.

3. Honoring the Individual Blueprint

Every dog is created differently. A mastiff is different from a chihuahua.. Their bodies, their stressors, and their needs are different. While we are starting small and can't offer a unique solution for every breed yet, our philosophy is rooted in this individuality.

  • Our Intention: We are moving away from the "one-size-fits-all" approach. We are building a library of research to help you understand your dog’s specific breed history, so you can be a more informed advocate for them.

Understanding your dog's unique biological "blueprint" is a powerful tool. We’ve started gathering research on specific breed groups to help you understand their specific needs. Explore our specific breed biology research here.

Walking This Path Together

I am not here to tell you "you should be doing this." Every animal and every home situation is unique. I’m simply here to share what I’ve researched and what I’ve experienced as a long-time owner who treats my dogs like family.

I want to encourage you to ask more questions and to look closely at the status quo. Talk to your vet, do your own digging, and listen to your intuition. The Brody Standard isn't just about what’s in a bottle, it’s about a community of people who want to be the best animal owners they can be.
