An Impulsive, Unforgettable Decision
My girlfriend and I brought home a chocolate Lab puppy in high school, without my parents' permission. That girlfriend is now my wife. That puppy was Brody.
He was with us for every chapter that followed — high school, college, our first apartment, and eventually the fifteen-acre ranch where we built Project Barnyard 502(c)3, the equine sanctuary she'd dreamed of since she was young.
The Heart of the Family
A dog who showed up for every version of us. The reckless teenagers, the young couple in a small apparntment, the newlyweds, the ranchers. He didn't just live alongside our story. He shaped it.
He was never just a dog, he was a best friend and a brother.
Nothing Prepares You for the Sudden Loss
A few months after settling into the ranch, Brody got sick. Really sick, and we eventually found a softball sized tumor in his stomach. He was only seven.
We believed we had years left. More hikes, more road trips, more ordinary days. Instead, his life was cut short, and it changed how we thought about caring for the animals we love.
Pets don't get to choose their diet, supplements, or medications. That's on us.
