The Reason We Exist

No pet leaves a mark quite like your first one. Most people grow up with a family dog or adopt one in their twenties. My story was different. In high school, my girlfriend and I brought home a chocolate lab without my parents’ consent. Not exactly a well-planned decision, but one I am most proud of. That girlfriend is now my wife, and Brody was there for every chapter we lived through together.

He was with us through high school, through college, through our first apartment. And when we finally moved onto a 15-acre ranch to build Project Barnyard, the sanctuary she had dreamed of her whole life, Brody came too. Older, slower, but still the heart of our little family.

Just a few months after we got there, we lost him to cancer. That loss made it clear: we are everything to our animals, and often we can lose sight of how important they are to us as humans. I thought I would have another five to seven years with him. I promised to never take the presents of an animal for granted.

He is why this brand exists. To honor him, remind people the importance of love for our animals, and give our furry family members a long, happy, and healthy life full of vitality.
